You already know that Vancouver is awesome, right? And if you’re an international student living in Vancouver, you probably already saw Stanley Park, Commercial Broadway, Granville Street, English Bay, etc. But Vancouver is so much more than that! It’s time to explore the infinite possibilities this city has to offer you.
So let’s start talking about museums and exhibitions.
In Vancouver, you will find an amazing number of places where you can have fun and discover new things from the roots of civilization at the Museum of Anthropology to the latest technology development in Science World. Have fun!
Located on the UBC campus, the Museum of Anthropology is renowned for its displays of world arts and culture, especially works of the First Nations of the Pacific Northwest. MOA is a major tourist destination as well as research and teaching museum with courses in art, anthropology, archaeology, conservation and museum studies. Check their current and future exhibitions schedule and also the collections!
Located at the Vanier Park, by Granville Island, the Museum of Vancouver is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to connecting the people of Vancouver as well as encouraging a deeper understanding of the city through stories, objects, and shared experiences. The Museum of Vancouver counts with permanent and rotating exhibitions throughout the year. Check their schedule and make your plans!
This fantastic place combines a national historic site with a museum and is perfect to spend the day with your friends. It is located up north, 45 minutes from Vancouver, and can be accessed by transit or you can buy a tour with a local operator. The Museum, that was a real mine in the last century, has a permanent historical exhibition where you can learn about the past of the mine, explore some of the equipment that was used there, do an underground tour, visit the gold panning pavilion. Like I said, is a day trip!
Located inside Stanley
Park, the Vancouver Aquarium is an Ocean Wise initiative. It was opened in 1956 and through visionary, responsible growth programs, with building additions starting in 1967, it has become the largest aquarium in Canada and one of the five largest in North America. Permanent exhibition and special events are hosted throughout the year, check their schedule for more information.
Science World is going to be your next favorite place in Vancouver. Packed with permanent collections, rotating exhibitions, and special events, Science World is a charitable organization that “engages British Columbians in science and inspires future science and technology leadership throughout our province.” But most important, Science World is a handful of fun and learning.
It doesn’t matter if you are a science freak or not, if you’re curious enough, there will be a perfect activity to brighten your day. Check their schedule for current and future events, put your glasses on, and be smart!
Cheers!
